Chevalier du Grand Robert (CGR) is an exploration of French viticulture and represents some of the most popular Old World varietals and blends. This brand was developed for experienced French wine drinkers but also serves as a perfect entry-point for those seeking to learn about the regions and terroirs for which the French have become famous.
Wine Folly:
Bordeaux - Red Blend (p. 83) Black Currents is definitely the the primary fruit flavor in this bottle. As far as spice, the CGR is more anise than black pepper. There is no shortage of tannins nor excess of sweetness here.
Red Bordeaux Blend (p. 219) There are some savory flavors in this bottle, maybe not the cigar the book references. This bottle is mostly the black current and some bay leaf or even wet gravel in the nose.
My Review: This is a nice entry Bordeaux that isn't too intimidating. The Cab Sav is the dominate taste and blend is overall dry and tannin-y. The blend adds some mustier notes to the nose.
